Muslims from around the world have been urged to emulate the good deeds of Islams first Imam, Imam Ali and a successor to Prophet Muhammad.

The rallying call came during commemorations to mark the birth anniversary of Imam Ali held in Harare on Monday, 10 April, 2017.

The program started after the evening salat and with the recitation of verses from the Glorious Quran by a Lebanese brother.

In his remarks, Dr. Mohsen Shojakhani, the Cultural Counsellor at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, congratulated all Muslims on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Imam Ali, a day that he said is also known as Mens day in Iran.

In his speech, Sheikh Ishmail Duwa, the chairman of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Zimbabwe said all Muslims around the world should unite around Imam Ali as the attributes that defined him made him the Prophets successor and not because of his biological relationship to the Prophet.

Sheikh Duwa noted that Imam Ali was knowledgeable in all aspects of Islam, was forthright before God, worked so hard for the Prophet, was a good listener, and a great teacher who was not power hungry and that he was not an aggressor.

He narrated the role played by the Prophet soon after the birth of Imam Ali and in his upbringing.

Sheikh Abdul Makwinja, the chairman of the Fatima Zahra Islamic Centre said that Muslims, and specifically the followers of the Ahlul Bait should draw lessons from Imam Alis life as he was the symbol of faith in Islam due to the fact that he was the only person born in the House of Kaba as well as through his exemplary interactions with various people whom he met.

He noted that Imam Ali also respected thefollowers of other religions.

Prominent Lebanese businessman and a strong follower of the Ahlul Bait, Mr Abhu Khalil described Imam Ali as a good human being who was righteous and truthful from his youthful years.

As the leader of all Muslims, he said Imam Ali was justified in all his deeds. He was a purified man and a wise leader who was highly knowledgeable in all aspects of human sciences as well as being courageous in the way he handled his and other Islamic issues. Imam Ali was also a strong believer who was so close to God and was also passionate in executing Gods will on all the Muslims.

Mr Musarafi, a leading personality of "Friends of Palestine" organization, a Zimbabwe solidarity movement, called on Muslims to safeguard the religious legacy bestowed on humanity by Imam Ali.

The commemorations were attended by followers of the Ahlul Bait in Zimbabwe led by His Excellency the Ambassador of Iran in Harare, Mr Ahmad Erfanian, and they included nationalities from Iran, Lebanon, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and other countries.

Poems were recited in memory of a man revered in Islam, while pre-recorded mauludis in Farsi, Arabic and English were played in honour of Imam Ali.
